African Muslim Circle (AMK e.V.)

Who we are

A network of the African diaspora in Berlin

AMK e.V. brings together Muslims from the African diaspora in and around Berlin. Since 2007 we have been working in development cooperation to reduce poverty and to promote development and peace in Africa.

We mainly support disadvantaged people—women, children, and people with disabilities—regardless of their faith. In Berlin, we stand for international understanding and for all people living together in peace.

What we do

Four areas of work

Work in Africa

Since 2007 we have been carrying out projects with local partners, mainly in Cameroon: schools, health care, vocational training, and business start-ups.

Development education

Symposia, panel discussions, and Future Workshops on peace and development in Africa—every year since 2012.

Interfaith and intercultural dialogue

We build bridges between religions and cultures and have connected mosques, churches, and migrant associations in the Wedding district of Berlin.

Participation

Vacation programs for children, sports, and workshops for women: we empower people of African descent in Berlin.

Projects

Making a difference in Cameroon and Berlin

Tackling unemployment in Douala and Foumban

With our partner organization J2DC, we trained young people, women, and internally displaced people in modern small-livestock farming and animal feed production and supported them on their way to self-employment.

  • 60 young people trained, including 25 women and 20 internally displaced people
  • New training building in Foumban with solar power and a well
  • Around 37,000 people reached by radio

Education and job opportunities: motorcycle mechanics

60 young people, 15 of them women, were trained as motorcycle mechanics in Douala and Foumban. A road safety campaign reached around 750 motorcyclists.

Schools for Koufomloum

In Koufomloum near Foumban, we built school buildings and supported them once they were in use.

Femmes Dynamiques – Strong Women, Strong Society

Workshops, counseling, and sports help Muslim women from Africa and Asia take an active part in society.

Events

Symposia and Future Workshops
